  • Salen's New Spoilers in the SSW Help Center
Now that we have the new quest line pretty well monkeywrenched in, Salen has been so kind as to submit spoilerific walkthroughs of the new questline. I've gone through the FAQs and removed older spoilers related to quests that don't exist anymore, and approved the new FAQ walkthroughs.
  • Let's Sticky some references..
Since I turned the key in this godamighty machine a week or so ago, we've gotten a remarkable number of returning players all trying to remember how to play, and a puzzlingly high number of new players who have no idea at all what is going on.
  • Welcome to Cycle 23 - The Final War!
    Here we go! :D
  • Something Cucurbitaceaen This Way Comes!
There have been strange reports today at the Imperial Office of unusual results from asteroid mining and accosting other beings. Exercise caution.
  • Fun with stats
So, I was checking out the "Hanx Effect" experienced by my other project and thought I would run out a report from Analytics to cover the last two years since the latest SSW Season started:
  • Ready for Cycle 23? Would it be more epic if it could be the last?
you know, 23 is a good number to end on - full of mythic resonance and mysterious meaning. Or hibernate awhile again, who knows? maybe you'll get an email when you're 60 inviting you to Cycle 33.
  • ACME Luckily Confidential Pump now in the 1337 Hut!
If you're lucky and use this pump in confidence, it will rob you of a little of both and give you drugs. Seems like a fair trade to me. Use once per day as directed. This item is reusable, but ewww..
  • Good on Good
Welp, it looks like a slow climb of Chaos, every few days they nibble a percent out of Order and climb a bit in the graphs. Evil seems to be completely absent in the Universe, so yay? :D
  • Yarrr!
A strange anomaly has been reported in Sector 4. As usual, we advise you to approach the situation with extreme inebriation.
  • YangFlipper Now In The 1337 Hut until Jan 1!
An ACME YangFlipper. Using it will burn half of your Yang in order to reverse its polarity. Use of the ACME YangFlipper will seriously impact your social position, so be very certain you can deal with the consequences before you try it. This item will be consumed on use.
  • Keep on Rockin on the Red World!
A strange anomaly has been reported in Sector 4. As usual, we advise you to approach the situation with extreme inebriation.
  • Game On!
Hmmn, looking very blue out there... (:
  • Blue Blockade Broken!
Hmmn, seems to be some resistance to an early Oddfellow win - enough to restart the Supremacy clock, it appears. (:
  • A Tale of Two Cities
A strange anomaly has been reported in Sector 4. As usual, we advise you to approach the situation with extreme inebriation.
  • Welcome to Cycle 22!
Bang! Brand new cycle - Get ye conquerin'! (:
  • Is is long enough for you?
    How about it, new cycle?
  • So.. What now, Citizens?
    1) Idle for a bit in anarchy mode while I finish off a book I'm working on, so I can diddle with a couple of the old quest planets and bring them back into play before reset - maybe even do a couple space warfare changes that received positive polling?
  • Happy Ostara!
Happy Ostara! Please visit the 1337 Hut to get your Ostara Basket, and go chat some folks up with it equipped. You may be surprised at what they give you.
  • Are you ready for a new Cycle?
Well, that was quick! was it good for you too? Ready for round 22?
  • Sitewide URL changed to SSL
..so that new browsers stop whining about doing logins over a non-encrypted connections. It may break some stuff that depend on hardcoded links to non-SSL resources, but maybe not. If your greasemonkey scripts break, tough cookies :D
  • Cycle 21 Begins!
Reset has happened and Cycle 21 has now begun! (:
  • Lucky You!
A strange anomaly has been reported in Sector 4. As usual, we advise you to approach the situation with extreme inebriation.
  • Cycle 21 Starts this weekend!
    Ready? :D
  • Look at Me! I'm On LSD!
No, seriously. I just landed on Lucky Spaceman Distilleries. The old LSD quest is now a daily, which you can test if you'd like. The Lodgemaster's assignments have been adjusted accordingly.
  • Eroticon 69 is back up, but not where you'd expect.
The original degree quest is no more, but there's a chance that the Whore will gift you with the long-unavailable Titanium Nipple Rings, but she has to be very, very impressed with your foreplay for that to happen.
  • Happy V-Day!
    The
  • Ok, We Are Thinking About Blowing Planet X Up Now...
We have been notified that there have been some unusual gravitational fluctuations in sector 828.

We have been notified that there have been some unusual gravitational fluctuations in sector 313.
  • Golly, It Likes To Travel, Does It Not?
We have been notified that there have been some unusual gravitational fluctuations in sector 1011.
  • Merry X-Mas!
We have been notified that there have been some unusual gravitational fluctuations in sector 552.
  • It Moved Again!
We have been notified that there have been some unusual gravitational fluctuations in sector 669.
  • Something Weirder!
We have been notified that there have been some unusual gravitational fluctuations in sector 142.
  • Something Weird!
We have been notified that there have been some unusual gravitational fluctuations in sector 123.
  • Imperial Office Reports Detecting Strange Gravitimological Anomalies
Imperial Gravtimilologist Snark Gluckytums reports that strong gravitimological anomalies are occurring within the centers of all unplaneted planetary wells inside the galactic maze. "It's as if something large and heavy like a planet was trying to be born in several places at once. We're not exactly sure where it will break through, but it will probably be within the center of one of the large cleared spaces, as these seem to be where the gravitimological anomalies are strongest. Looks like it'll happen within the next few days. Probably gonna spoil someone's Xmas if they own anything valuable in the sector."
  • Big Black Cock now available at the 1337 Hut!
A giant smoke-black cock. Perhaps you should use it, but just once a day - you wouldn't want to stretch anything out too much. There are two things that it will always do, and two others it will sometimes do, if it's in the mood.
  • When Facilities Collide...
Ok, maybe it's time to make a stab at shaking up facilities warfare again. How about we up the drama:
  • Something Cucurbitaceaen This Way Comes!
There have been strange reports today at the Imperial Office of unusual results from asteroid mining and accosting other beings. Exercise caution.
  • Max Full/Drunk Calculation will change soon.
Constitution's effect on the Max Full/Drunk Scale - Current Vs. New:
  • Laaaag, and the remedies thereof
Ok, this intermittent every 10-15 minute lag issue seems to be beyond the ability of our server farm to fix. They've tried replacing a drive cable (apparently that *was* an issue, and last night they cloned the entire server over to a new hardware rack. That seemed to fix the problem for about 8 hours, but this morning it came back.
  • Get Your Boffo Blaster Boots now in the 1337 Hut!
These are Boffo the Clown the XXIV's incredibly sexy rocket blaster boots, or at least an indistinguishable facsimile thereof. Wearing them with the properly amusing accessories is unusually attractive and bafflingly spaceworthy. It should also be noted that they are fueled by Bofhozonite ore and do not have fittings for the ACME Battlesuit.
  • Changes to Ore Trading Ports and Databuddy
Apparently talking to myself in chat:
  • Get Your Gamewidget Constructor now in the 1337 Hut!
    Available now: Gamewidget Constructor!
  • Keep on Rockin on the Red World!
A strange anomaly has been reported in Sector 4. As usual, we advise you to approach the situation with extreme inebriation.
  • Honty Mall's "Let's Deal!" Game now in the 1337 Hut!
This is a portable version of Honty Mall's "Let's Deal!" Game, the game where there's always a chance for a deal.
  • Failing to Sex0r NPCs now robs you of Luck instead of Chi
Trying out a little experiment, so for now, when you attempt to sex0r mobs and fail, it now costs you Constitution Luck instead of Sexual Chi. This should make it much, much easier to keep your sexiness up and a little harder to keep your Luck up.
  • Get your Thingwidget Constructor at the 1337 Hut Today!
Get your Thingwidget Constructor at the 1337 Hut Today!
  • A Tale of Two Cities
A strange anomaly has been reported in Sector 4. As usual, we advise you to approach the situation with extreme inebriation.
  • Quests #1 through #33 are updated
I'll be rewriting a bunch of the quest text and refining it, but mechanically, it's all in. Stand By for Polish.
  • Cycle 20 Has Started!
    Ready, Get Set, GO!
  • Quests 32 and 33 will change probably today
In preparation for the new questline I've done a few things already:
  • Space may start looking weird
Okeh, I've finished a script that clears all players sector maps, primarily because I'll be playing around with re-generating the space map with different kinds of arrangements. This means:
  • Triad Wins Cycle 19!
Tight co-ordination and planning, the initiative to get out and paint space first, and the willingness to not sleep for a week to ensure that incursions are beat back - that's all that's really needed to win a Cycle in SSW, and this time the Triads had it down. Congrats to Orange Crush! (:
  • Trading Visor now in the 1337 Hut!
Trading Visor now in the 1337 Hut! It gives you extra trades. and soonish, it will be a part of a new IOTM recipe for blended benefits. More reset-safe hat-o-matics, Yay! :D
  • Happy Ostara!
Happy Ostara! Please visit the 1337 Hut to get your Ostara Basket, and go chat some folks up with it equipped. You may be surprised at what they give you.
  • Nov 2015, knockin' out the mothballs & spiderwebs..
Well, someone asked if there could be a 10th Anniversary round of SSW in 2016, so here I am waking up the Cron Daemons and dusting off the reset button...
  • Lucky You!
A strange anomaly has been reported in Sector 4. As usual, we advise you to approach the situation with extreme inebriation.
  • Space Lunchboxes and an aversion to needles
Space Lunchboxes now have a 50% chance to drop from using the "mine 10" option on Asteroids, and of course, you only have a chance if you actually have ten turns to spend. What are Space Lunchboxes? Go find out!
  • The number of broken things are delah.
Well, today we've found that nearly everything that uses the image manipulation library, including gallery uploads and most of the admin editors is white-screening. Not sure why yet, but I'm aware of it.
  • Space Traders start getting a bit more generous after tonight's roll, and other stuff
I've raised the high end of the Trading Port markup in the nightly function that determines the daily prices. This will result in higher max buying prices.
  • Shook up the food
With the addition of Hedrok content, there's been an obvious shakeup with food - Fat Bob's aren't the best anymore, and a few of the food items that were once just rare holiday content have become more usable in recipes, requested for daily quests and more available via certain routes. This is unbalancing, but it wasn't like food had much balance before. Right now, we're hacking in ways to get certain things needed for quests, which introduces yet more imbalance.
  • Trades and Turns
Something I've been pondering awhile is the idea of emphasizing Trades and de-emphasizing Turns as you rise in strength. Basically as you progess towards 33 and space activity, you should be working more with Trades and doing less farming with Turns, and once you are at 33 you should be conserving turns to farm for questy things, but shouldn't have so many turns that you're just script-farming for money.
  • IT's ON!
Looks like the Triad Cabbal is making a move and painting the town Orange. Let's see if we remember how this game is won.
  • Happy V-Day!
    The
  • Done Moved!
Well, here we are on the new server. looking good so far. Let me know if you notice funky things. Also Hedrok is here, Sector 707, with a brand-new Daily Quest!
  • Movin' on up!
I'm probably going to be moving the site to a new server today this coming week, assuming nothing else particularly awful happens over there, so expect the site to go into maintenance mode sometime today, and you won't be able to log in.
  • SSW Now in Stealth Email mode..
well, to call it a "mode" is somewhat misleading, as it isn't a switch I can flip on and off, but given that this ghost is now running again, I figured a large number of old users wouldn't want mysterious emails showing up in their personal inboxes. To prevent this, I've manually disabled all of the automated emails sent out for birthday reminders, holidays and resets.
  • Donny Dronefighter's Mini-DMG now available at the 1337 Hut!
Quote "crashnburn11":   How about battle token mmg (with obviously different values). A million starbux is about 8000 drones, so somewhere around that many tokens for the jackpot, otherwise 5-10 per use
  • The starting gun has fired...
For once, I think we'll experiment with starting a cycle with no immediate reset. This means Norton's drones are already gone, and an Amaranth win can happen like right now. In fact, any society can win. Cycle 19 has started! (:
  • SSW Now enabled in Anarchy Mode..
For your practice enjoyment, the site has been enabled in Anarchy Mode for a bit until we Reset for Cycle 19. The War is not currently winnable in this mode, so just play around and get used to where stuff is again... (:
  • Happy V-Day!
    The
  • Well, it's a little late, but the Universe will end soon!
I'm starting to sound a bit like Harold Camping these days, but this time is for reals - gonna push the shiny red button maybe this weekend. Probably this weekend. Almost certainly this very weekend. (:
  • End Times approach...
Probably late this month, we'll be shutting down the universe as promised. Before then, I plan on unveiling a few things, including a special end-times item for you guys, and by request, some lists of all recipes/costumes and items because some folks are just curious about that sort of thing.
  • Merry X-Mas!
Planet X has not appeared on schedule this year. It appears that Malcolm Ten has perfected the sheilding of his home base planet.
  • Play Whack The Emperor!
Emperor Norton and myself are now out in space, for your PvP pleasure! The Emperor, alas doesn't have much on him to steal, but I do (:
  • Red Warriors Rising...
The Eastern Star has covered space in a bright red blanket of drones, initiating the countdown to the end of the cycle. Will they stand unopposed?
  • Something Cucurbitaceaen This Way Comes!
There have been strange reports today at the Imperial Office of unusual results from asteroid mining and accosting other beings. Exercise caution.
  • There is a presence I have not felt since...
...last cycle. Red and blue have established power centers in space. Anyone else want to get in the game?
  • Reset Tonight!
Looks like tonight's the night! Get ready for a fresh, clean, grey universe to make a colorful mess in! (:
  • Probably mid-week reset
Might be Tuesday/Wednesday or Thursday. A little switch-up from weekend resets. (:
  • The Red Star Prevails!
See War Record for details. Those of you running Nardo's javascript map animator plugin might have issues with the functioning thereof, since it crashed my Firefox 3 time in a row. Let me know if it does the same to you, not that I can do anything about it except advise you to disable it.
  • The War is ON!
Looks like Eastern Star is making a play for domination in space. Last night they nearly lost their streak only the second day in when some unknown party (well, drone-kill totals might give a clue) nearly cleared them out, but not long enough to get them below 80% for the day. A quick rebound in coverage saved the ES streak so far. Stay tuned for further developments.
  • The Red Blanket of Doom!
It appears that the Eastern Star has the field covered. Barring any sudden surprises, we're about to have an ES victory. Hopefully, they'll have a war name and record ready before roll and all their avvies set. (:
  • Yarrr!
A strange anomaly has been reported in Sector 4. As usual, we advise you to approach the situation with extreme inebriation.
  • Imperial Office Report: Strange Phenomena In Sector 4
The Imperial Office reports that a massive gravitational force has pulsed into existence in Sector 4. Sober reports from eyewitnesses reveal that the sector remains empty of any large new mass despite scattered claims of the re-appearance of Mars. What is not disputed, however, is the report that this supposed gravitational mass has destroyed all battle drones that were in Sector 4. AVAST!
