The Tranquility Sex0r quest has been moved from #31 to #26. Note that this knocks out a planned Bank Interest/Trade Exp stat quest that was in the updated plan. I realized we needed an actual Asteroid Mining quest right after the Minor Miner quest where you get your mining tool, so added that at #28.
Warp Probes can now be bought from Spaceman's Supply as soon as you have access to the Rocket Pack. Also, I've removed the "Anarchy Period" drone deterioration and lockout routines, because they are important to leveling now, so drones and factories are now available in Anarchy again.
I've updated the master plan to show this new structure.
For Degree 31, it seems the lodgemaster gave me 1,000 drones twice.
...Congratulations Knight Kadosh! You are now Drone and Facility aware! Here are some drones to start you out.
This is a set-and-forget sector control battle drone. Giving 1,000 Battle Drones.
Now you have 11,000.
You may now proceed to your next assignment.
Congratulations, Knight Kadosh! You're now at your nearly penultimate degree, the one which signifies that you are nearly a full member of your Society. When you complete this degree, you will have gained mastery of placing battle drones in a space sector to defend it against your enemies.
Here are some Battle Drones, which you will use to complete your next Degree Challenge.
This is a set-and-forget sector control battle drone. Giving 1,000 Battle Drones.
Now you have 12,000.
You will also find Battle Drones in Spaceman's Supply here at the Lodge.
Once you have placed your 1000 drones in a space sector, return to me...
On the asteroid quest, I do understand that the point of it being 1000 turns is to slow fast people down. However, if attracting new people is the goal, this may be a rough one. They will have little idea on what foods and drinks will generate a lot of turns, and may end up having to wait 3-5 days to get that many turns, just to finish a quest where you go click click click 100 times on mine 10. That may turn some new people away.
Perhaps a better set-up would be less turns on the first time thru, and then 1000 for dimiting players, that way we can get as many new players to the drone game so they can see what it is really about.
Don't worry too much about the number, as it'll change. you'll notice I've been removing many of the "stat gain" goals in other quests, which will serve more to acquaint people with the features rather than acquire and spend resources. The mining one is just a turns regulator which can be fine-tuned once I get everything else in. Also, the "dimit" questline isn't built yet, and it probably won't look too much like the plan dictates. I'm doing some re-thinking as I plod through the code. (:
I dimited again to see the new stuff in action and I'm stuck on degree 25. You can't make Chicken Tetrizinni without Magic Mushrooms and the spots to get those went away. The Data Buddy says totally lost astronauts drop them, but I've burnt a few hundred turns at the weedfarm so far (see what I did there) and no drop yet.
Could you make the Mushies a more common drop or require a different dish for now?
Fwiw I am enjoying the new quests. The progression seems to make more sense than before.
Also, ran into a thing. Not a problem, just a thing. I remembered why we did that power grind after the hypercomputer quest. Now you get the warp probe quest, so I blasted off after getting my double banana blasters and then stopped dead as I had no peels LOL! and then it struck me that in this new info about the game tutorial through the degrees, that training up weapons didn't really come up. before you got the urine blaster and had to fight, then you got bananas and had to gain power (usually fight), but know people may not know how to get their weapons up to 100% (or even why they need to)
I'm not talking players now, but new players that may drop in when we reset...or is this just my over anal mind racing through useless things again :)
Hey where can I see my GEOC power distribution now? I usually headed into the lodge to check how my power was distributed, especially when leaning and seeing how far to correct, but now I'm leaning and head to lodge and just get the notice that I'm leaning and need to correct, would be nice to see how far away from 0 I have strayed and need to correct rather than do it blindly.
Maybe an Amaranth thing? I accidentally (poor planning) added 800 chaos, oops, so was busy rectifying via the power gym, but didn't reach my goal and then doing via trades. Wasn't 100% sure how much I had left so I popped into a lodge and didn't have all the usual stats etc just the lodge master telling me I was out of alignment and the lodge was closed to me until the roll over.
On a side to this I've always thought it would be nice to see the GEOC distribution on the player profile page instead of just the power number, or even a rollover pop up on the main side panel.
I think the Urine Blaster is out of the loop now. Might make that drop somewheres.
The previous questline did rather dwell a lot on weapons training, whereas now it doesn't - instead basically assuming you know by instinct which is the business end and inherently understand that practice makes perfect. Is that assuming too much?
I was pondering adding the old Shooting Range back in, but still not sure. I suppose I could add a "train up your DBBB at the Lodge's Shooting Range" quest objective somewhere in there, with some instruction on ammo, ejection item, range and suchlike, if it were sorely wanted.
I think you should, otherwise the game would just have a "pitcher o' piss" item for no reason. (Unless there's something else you can do with it but I don't think so)
How did the shooting range work? Was it just "spend X turns training"? Because that honestly sounds kind of boring. If you're going to have a train-up-your-weapon quest, it should be through battle. I know you're trying to eliminate grindy quests, but weapon mastery is a grindy mechanic (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).
The Shooting Range was the first "figuring out a combat/weapons system" thing I built, and mimics the current "you shoot at monster" mechanic in terms of weapon skillups and hit/miss of target.
The quest, if implemented, would probably check the players mastery of the DBBB, which would mean you could train it at the range or in combat, your choice. Many of the training quests are like that - they don't particularly care if you got your 1 fullness from eating the suggested apple or if you managed to cook up a Hungry Norton dinner and eat that instead. it only cares that you came back with 1 (or more) fullness. This provides opportunity for optimization within a run. (:
Small issue.. the quest for the ACME suit still has Yeranus listed as being at sec 30 and not 353. I say small issue as I am not sure if the planets are going to move again or stay where they are. The databuddy has Yeranus listed correctly.
This did not happen to me, but it occurred to me that it would be very easy at the beginning of a cycle for someone to lose enough drones whilst clearing out Ammie sectors that they would not have 1000 drones left to complete Degree 31.
I believe they get much better as your trade exp increases, but also there are a lot of variables that affect it, especially since you basically roll dice on how many hypos you get and then again on how many trades those hypos give you. Two bad rolls and you might get half your trades back, two great rolls maybe half again over. It'd be worth spading out now since it hasn't been changed in awhile.
also, BTW: pumps drop from "Mine 10" now, like lunchboxes.
I'd encourage you to take 4 samples when you have 500,000,000 trade exp under your belt, and compare the difference. The problem is that there are too many dice rolls at each stage to unexploitably make it a high-payout deal at the kind of stat levels seen 3 days in, because those dice rolls are influenced by your stats and can get very high. I'd have to yank the dice rolls and boosts from both hypos and pumps and make 'em drop a static X trades/hypos with disregard for your stats or RNG or anything else fun.
Then again, the pump is an option that allows you to store some unused trades at a given RNG/Stat modified transactional cost, or to transfer trades to another player, also at a given modified transactional cost. it's not really intended to be just a piggy bank for trades, and I'm not entirely sure that making them such really should be a goal. (:
