The Squiffle Report - 13:48 UTC Feb 11, 3010 Finally made it to 33, and here are some of my first impressions.
Overall, we already see three of the societies starting to stake out turf. The Lummies are mainly in the top left corner (I'm told that this is not because they find it easier to deal with the lower numbers), with a secondary area just off Laxloo, and the Oddies are towards the centre, having gravitated once again into that area just south of XMM, but with a secondary area to the north of Ahlnuldia this time around. Meanwhile the ES has cordoned off a block in the bottom right corner, demonstrating that Green and Red are indeed diametrically opposed.
The Lummies have also secured Jork's this time, but Leroy asked me to point out that everyone is welcome at Tong's (that's sector 923), now that the Emperor's drones have been removed. Remember that he was found innocent of all charges of interference with Imperial property.
The Lummies and Oddies seem to have established a decent supply base, each having secured 12 asteroids. ES have 3, and there are 33 asteroids still under the Emperor's control. It's worth noting that no society has yet claimed a Rofol asteroid, although the Emperor has lost control of the one in 856, and there's still a Bofho asteroid under the Emperor's control in 733, although I doubt that will last long. In a dramatic turn-around from last cycle, the Triads have yet to secure any asteroids. As you may be aware, there are fewer asteroids to go around this time, just six of each type, so securing a solid asteroid base is likely to be pretty important.
As to where they are, we see that the Lummies managed to snag all three asteroids that are adjacent to planets, so they can't be blockaded from their supply of Imho, Lmao, or Omg. The Oddies secured the cluster of 3 asteroids in 341, 373, and 405. Interestingly, the other clusters are still fairly open, with the emperor controlling the only cluster of more than three asteroids, possibly because the asteroids there are some of the less-sought-after ores.
I do expect the Emperor to soon lose control of the nice cluster of 3 free in 667, 701, and 733.
And that's it for today. Remember to tune in next time, and feel free to send in your news tips and requests by smail.
